Our eating habits - or our nutrition is extremely important, because without good nutrition your natural resistance or immune system most probably will come to be weak, and we will eventually fall ill. So what is proper nutrition? How do we know if we are eating ok or not?
Well, an easy way to get to know if you are eating healthy, is to look over your eating habits a little. When did you last eat a piece of fruit? Do you eat enough greens?

Some governments now recommend five fruits and vegetables a day.. which is very good indeed!
These five fruits and veggies should be eaten whole though and not commercial juice.
Surprisingly some say that one of the five veggies and fruits can be replaced by a glass of juice. It is better not to follow this advice, as the juice companies are probably behind it. If you drink juice sometimes it’s ok, but don’t do that instead of eating fruit. Juice is many times heat treated to give it a longer shelf life, and when they do that, it loses a lot of vitamins and minerals. Did you know that juice you buy at the store is also much higher in calories than fresh fruit…
On the juice and commercial smoothie bottles it sometimes says for example: “This smoothie contains 1 papaya, 1 carrot, 1 cup acai fruit” etc. But try not to be be fooled by this. Drink home-made juice instead!
Practical tips for gaining healthy eating habits:
- Don’t eat white sugar, junk food or too many grain sources such as breads and cookies.
- Eat lots of greens and fruits every day.
- Make one of your meals every day a salad and another meal can be a fruit plate.
Go ahead and start your day with fresh fruit. If you do so, you don’t have to think too much about it later. And if you forget to eat more fruit that afternoon and evening, it’s not that big of a deal.
Think about this: you could take a fruit with you when you go out of the house in the morning. That way you will probably eat your fruit rather than buy a chocolate bar when you feel you want something small. And when you are home again you could make a fruit salad before dinner. That way you should for sure have all recommended servings of fruit covered - if not more!
